Training and Research

A range of training and awareness raising sessions are available.  These can be discussed and tailored to the needs of the individuals and/or groups.  Training is available for:

  • Parent groups
  • Charities
  • Education establishments
  • Professionals from education, health and social care
  • Nurseries, day care, carers
  • Schools - foundation stage, primary secondary and specialist educational placements/provision
  • Further education and universities

Various topics and materials are available.  These can be designed to fit requirements.  Examples are:

  • Motor difficulties and dyspraxia
  • Fine motor and handwriting difficulties
  • Child development
  • Addressing the needs of children with difficulties in the classroom
  • Sensory processing difficulties
  • Sensory integration therapy
  • Inclusion of special needs children

All therapy sessions are based on evidence based practice.  This means that current practice is always reviewed in relation to research and studies that have looked at similar needs.

Goals, which are child-specific, are set before any treatment starts and planned with the child, parents and family.  Each goal is very small so that change can be noted during treatment.

Previous small scale studies, within the therapist's experience included:

  • Exploring the sensory and motor skills that affect handwriting
  • Evaluating the effectiveness of sensory integration therapy
